Author Spotlight – N.F. Nelson

At Southern Starr Publishing, we believe in celebrating the voices that bring unique stories to life. Our Author Spotlight is a space where we shine a light on the talented authors who are making waves with their captivating tales, thought-provoking insights, and unforgettable characters.

Frequently, we will highlight a different author from our community of writers, giving you a deeper look into their creative journeys, inspirations, and the works that have touched hearts around the world. Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering a new voice, this page is your go-to for inspiration, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and a personal connection to the stories that move us.

What inspired you to become an author, and how did your journey begin?

I’ve loved storytelling since I was a child. I grew up reading works from many imaginative authors, and those stories inspired me to start creating my own. I would often invent short stories and share them with friends and family, who were always willing to listen and offer feedback. Their encouragement played a big role in motivating me to keep writing and improving my craft over the years.

What’s the hardest part about being an author, and how do you overcome it?

One of the most challenging parts of writing for me is structuring the plot at the beginning of a story, especially while developing the personalities and motivations of different characters. Each character needs to feel unique and believable. To overcome this, I spend time planning the characters and outlining their traits before fully developing the story.

Another challenge is the marketing side of publishing. Once a book is finished, getting it into the hands of readers can be difficult. This is something I am still learning and improving at. I’ve been gradually exploring different strategies, including working with editors and marketing professionals, while continuing to learn more about how to reach readers effectively.

Why did you choose your particular publishing path (indie or traditional), and what do you enjoy most about it?

After researching the traditional publishing process, I learned that many authors face long waiting periods, multiple rounds of submissions, and a high number of rejections before securing a publishing deal. While traditional publishing works well for many writers, I felt that the independent route gave me more creative freedom and allowed me to bring my stories to readers more quickly. It also lets me continue writing and releasing new books without being restricted by lengthy publishing timelines.

What key lessons have you learned throughout your publishing journey that you wish you knew when you first started?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of building an audience and community around your work. Even a small group of supportive readers can make a huge difference when starting out. I’ve also realized how important it is to learn about book marketing early in the process. Understanding how books reach readers is just as important as the writing itself.

Can you tell us about your most recent book, and what can readers expect from it?

My latest work is part of my first series, Wrath of the Gods, which draws inspiration from Greek mythology. The story explores a world where the ancient Greek gods return to Earth after centuries of being dismissed as myths. As chaos begins to unfold, a young man named Orion discovers that he is bound to the gods by blood — a connection that places him directly in their path.

The series explores themes of power, destiny, and the consequences of forgotten legends returning to the modern world. I am planning the story as a four-book series. The first two books are already available on Amazon, and I am currently working on the third installment.

The gods didn’t return to save us. They came to take what’s theirs.

When the ancient Greek gods descend upon a modern world that has forgotten them, they don’t bring miracles—they bring systemic collapse and terror. As cities crumble and fear takes hold, humanity is faced with a choice: bow to the divine or burn.

Orion is a man tied to these vengeful deities by blood, a reluctant descendant born to a throne he never wanted. He refuses to rule, choosing restraint while the world demands a savior. But as the “Wrath of the Gods” intensifies, Orion’s silence becomes a death sentence for thousands.

Now, he must decide: continue to watch the world end, or embrace the very power he fears to become the weapon humanity needs.

Fate belongs to the divine. The future belongs to those who fight back.

Wrath of the Gods is a mythic fantasy about aftermath rather than apocalypse—about survival after belief, choice after prophecy, and the quiet, dangerous moment when humanity realizes the divine is no longer in control.

Book One of an epic series about legacy, consequence, and what comes after the myths end… or does it?
