Another Contest Win

Up against some very stiff competition, Devon Owens and Glenna Beaty competed in the Jr. Division of the talent contest at the Putnam County Fair on Monday (08/06/07). They performed the final  illusion in their "Tribute to the world's most famous magician, Harry Houdini", the Metamorphosis. The contest was full of very talented kids ages 9-12,  from all over the Upper Cumberland Area. There were singers, dancers, and even one who juggled fire. Any placement at all in this contest would've been an huge accomplishment.

A joke was made backstage between Devon and his dad, Greg.  Greg started twisting on Devon's ear asking "is this your personality button? if so, you need to crank it up to 10". Devon grabbed the other ear and said, "No dad, it's over here". That seemed to have worked because from the very beginning of the three minute routine, Devon would not let the crowd go. They cheered and screamed all the way trough routine. At the climax of the Illusion, the audience exploded. That personality and a very good performance did them some good, they won the Jr. Division prize. The Prize check was presented to the show's host "Psycho" Charlie. With this contest win also came an invitation to perform at the Mid-South Fair, Youth Talent Contest in Memphis.

Pat Wasson of Magic Shows of Florida, The magician that travels with fair mid-way, Gerren Shows, was in attendance. Immediately after their performance Devon was invited down on the midway to perform on the "Illusion Theater" stage on the mid-way. So he and his mother boarded a golf-cart and was whisked away for another short performance.
