The Purpose of S.A.M. and The
Tennessee Magical Society.
The purpose of this society shall be to advance, elevate, and
preserve magic as a performing art, to promote fellowship
throughout the world of magic and to maintain and improve
ethical standards in the field of magic.
Why We Meet
At meetings the members discuss special events and other
business, hear from local magic dealers, purchase magic from
dealers, and see some demonstrations of new magical effects,
then get down to the real fun of performing, teaching, and
learning effects and techniques. The members cover a wide range
of abilities from professional magicians to people just
interested in the art. Performance is not mandatory but is
encouraged. The atmosphere is light and supportive and it a
great place to try out new effects or to perform for the first
time.
Besides the monthly meetings other activities include...
- Bringing in various lecturers on the art of magic.
- Putting on stage shows for the various charities.
- An annual banquet at which we have a nice dinner and see
(and perform) some magic.
- and many more.

The Society of American Magicians,
founded on May 10, 1902 in Martinka's famous magic shop in New
York City, New York, is the oldest and most prestigious magical
society in the world. For over a century it has promoted the
ideals shared by Kellar, Houdini, Thurston and over 30,000
others world-wide who have held membership in the society. These
ideals include the elevation of the Art of Magic, the promotion
of harmony among magicians, and the opposition of the
unnecessary public exposure of magical effects. Visit the S.A.M.
